As a widely envied independent woman in London society, however, she was increasingly the subject of scandalous gossip. Eventually she married the governor of a colony in West Africa, and died under mysterious circumstances soon after arriving in Africa, aged thirty-six. Landons life contributed very largely to the nineteenth-century archetype of the poet as a breed apart, heroic but doomed. Her poetry, however, was until very recently largely forgotten; this is the first twentieth-century edition of her poems, which the editors describe as cold and sentimental at the same time, flat and intense.In addition to a broad selection of Landons poetry and prose, this volume also includes a wide variety of contextual materials and a comprehensive bibliography.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Mia Karts","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51325933027616,"sku":"NEW1551111357","price":54.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0980\/7426\/3840\/files\/7190WB2bvZL.jpg?v=1773159874","url":"https:\/\/miakarts.com\/products\/letitia-elizabeth-landon-selected-writings-broadview-literary-texts-series-1551111357","provider":"Miakarts Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
