"Blessings from the Good Earth" is a collection of twenty-seven essays that provide a nostalgic look at the life of a farm boy growing up in the small town of Gonzales, Texas during the depression.Through the eyes of this young boy we see how the family's love, hard work and perseverance sustained them during difficult economic times and a war that touched many families in their home town. The book describes how his mother cooked on a wood stove and how the family survived with no electricity, running water or indoor plumbing.Buddy discusses the crucial role of the church during these times and simple pleasures like the county fair and night-time varmit hunting. This is an easy read and an affirmation of the qualities that made America great.
