Beginning in December 2007, the U. S. economy experienced a severe economic recession that resulted in high unemployment, declines in personal and family income, the collapse of the housing market, and more Americans living in poverty. There was also an increase in small business failures, plant closings, a greater reliance on government as a safety net for survival, and more individuals reporting mental and emotional distress. Other economic challenges experienced in the nation included financial instability, and reductions in economic output, business climate, and consumer confidence etc. The aforementioned hardships and difficulties experienced in the nation and the resulting discomfort in individuals lives have impacted every racial, ethnic, religious, political, and socioeconomic group. This book, Gods Provision During Economic Difficulty, asserts that God is the ultimate answer to the economic problems faced by individuals and the nation. God should be petitioned through fasting, prayer, and obedience to His word to deliver the country out of its economic malaise. God promises of deliverance are certain for those who follow Him. Leaving God out of the solution to the economic challenges confronting individuals and the nation will prolong the discomfort associated with the economic decline. Gods Provision During Economic Difficulty utilizes a case-study approach to examine some of the economic challenges confronting Old and New Testament saints. This approach explores how God met the economic needs of Job, Abraham, Ruth, David, Elijah, Nehemiah and the nation of Israel based on direct scriptural references, and the biblical confirmation of His provision. Gods ways of handling economic difficulties are sure, available, and well documented. The faithful today should exhibit the personal faith and commitment of earlier believers to obviate the economic challenges facing them and the nation. Job, Abraham, Ruth, David, Elijah, Nehemiah, the nation of Israel, and other saints are selected because of the poignant lessons they convey to Christians today on how God operates during difficult economic circumstances. They exemplify Gods deliverance during economic difficulty and protracted hardship. Examining how God delivered the faithful during economic difficulties will provide hope, confidence, and faith in Him during the economic crises. Gods ways of handling situations, including economic hardships, are different than mans ways. The worlds view of the appropriate individual and national response to economic emergencies is inadequate to offer any real hope, comfort, and direction.
