The last of the six Lorraine girls unmarried, daring golden-haired Julie has been summoned to the coast of Maine, where her Aunt Martha has consulted the stars to find her a suitable match. Young Julie, who was determined to control her own life, fully intends to prove her wrong, but, just as her train is departing to take her to her prospective but uninteresting fiance, she jumps off to save a runaway dog and is left behind. A sudden storm forces her to take refuge in an old cabin, where she is surprised to encounter a candidate for the state senate and the current state senator, who has a reputation for dirty politics. Suddenly she found herself embroiled in a political scandal. Faced with a future mapped out by her wealthy aunt, she has walked into a web of smuggling, blackmail, and political intrigue... one she may not get out of alive.

Julie became caught in an unexpected sequence of events. Hours later, she found herself married to the handsome stranger saved her from her own impetuous actions. She jumped recklessly into marriage with a man she hardly knew and who had followed her from the train, and she was once again ready to make a hasty decision. Only Julie's courage and questioning spirit saved them -- and revealed the true instincts of her heart and the man who had always loved her.
