Product DescriptionYoung readers can follow playful Natalie as she hides under the table, under the laundry basket, under the porch stairs, or under a big umbrellaFrom Publishers WeeklyIn this second book about Natalie, children will enjoy sharing this resourceful youngster's special "underneath" places: under the table, under the bathwater, under the porch where the spiders are. Natalie and baby brother Thomas joyfully adopt all the funny faces and positions of childhood as they romp with Dad from breakfast to bedtime, where, typically, Dad is asleep while Natalie stays awake. James's bright crayon colors are the perfect medium for this small, intimate book. It's a good choice for preschoolers, who will enjoy Natalie's sly tricks, and for the very young, who may identify with mischievous Thomas. Ages 3-7.Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.From School Library JournalPreSchool-K-- Natalie and her brother Thomas explore just about every fun place to be "underneath." Besides the expected ones such as tables and blankets, these two look under plates "where the writing is" and Thomas gets a shower of french fries. Typically, fun for one turns to tears when Thomas is under his blanket and under his big sister. Bright watercolors are softly outlined in black crayon. The children are just about technicolor themselves: Natalie's hair is pumpkin bright and Thomas' hair is mustard yellow. Engaging pictures are large, and many show a child's-eye view, letting readers in on that perspective. Dad is the care-giver, busy with dishes, car repairs, and baths. It is no wonder that the best part of his day is bedtime when he and his children are warmly sheltered underneath his jacket. Full of child appeal, this playful story tells a lot about "underneath." --Jane Saliers, Atlanta-Fulton Public LibraryCopyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.
