Summer 2008 has arrived in Stockholm as young adults from around the world gather for a meeting of Youth for Peace, hoping to find solutions to the conflicts that divide them. Ghada Shafi from Palestine, Binyamin Dayan from Israel, and Mariela Fuentes, a child of the violence that wracked Nicaragua, have assumed leadership roles at the YFP meeting. Negotiations that cross language barriers and cultural differences are difficult enough, but when a Syrian participant dies mysteriously, the meeting is engulfed in distrust and fear.Magnus Torval, a Swedish detective who is also a famous international power lifter, investigates the mysterious death and associated events that threaten the YFP participants. He works closely with Mariela as the two of them confront not only difficult developments in the volatile Swedish immigrant community, but also their own past disappointments and mutual attraction. With each passing day, Mariela, Magnus, Ghada, and Binyamin see the stakes growing. They are running out of time to discover who is behind the imminent danger.A fast-paced and engrossing novel filled with multifaceted characters, Peace Corpse explores the complexity of working for peace and the tenacity and fearlessness of those who threaten it.
