I immediately fell in love with the characters as they developed in the story. Even with all their idiosyncrasies, from Gracie and her brother Hu's relationship to the tough-as-nails father and the hapless cop who just wants to get promoted, they became real, endearing people to me.I especially liked giving Gracie the ability she possesses and I would often imagine what life would be like to have the same kind of power. I figured it would lead to some of the hilarious situations she would encounter as the story moved along.Even as I was wrapping up the story, I couldn't bear to part with the family I had built among the characters, so the second book in the series, "Shift Into Second" is on my computer and underway. After high school, life took over and writing fell by the wayside.In summer 2012, Kathleen and her 17-year-old daughter Samantha Westlake challenged each other to write novels as a "bucket list" item.
