The book of Revelation is a literary mosaic of images borrowed from ancient Jewish writings, collected together to energize the church during a period of domination under Roman rule. Though many turn to Revelation to find graphic and horrific speculation about the future, this volume shows that the real message of Revelation is one of encouragement and hope, looking toward God's ultimate victory over evil and suffering. On that day, even death will be locked up, and the key will be thrown away. The faithful who have endured to the end will be gathered into the company of God in a new heaven and a new earth, where God will wipe away every tear.
