The author reconstructs and compares the actual military situations of the several combatants in a detailed and ambitious manner. Drawing on a vast and growing body of American, British, and German memoirs and secondary sources, as well as on newly available archival materials in Washington and London, the author constructs a persuasive case for the feasibility of invasion in 1943.
