Review 'A better short introduction to Spencer and his work would be hard to find.' (New York Times) Product Description This entertaining and aesthetically appealing survey of Stanley Spencer's career spans its entire spectrum and places his remarkable oeuvre in the broader context of twentieth-century European art. This edition is the single volume paperback version of the original hardback monograph: it is ideal for anyone who is interested in the unique work of Stanley Spencer on a less rigorous scale, as it embodies a concise and succinct introduction to the artist and his manner of work. It bears a remarkably competitive price and covers, in less detail, the same ground as the original hardback edition to give a coherent and substantial overview of Spencer's character, artistic motivations and long-standing influence. For those who would rather enjoy the many superb illustrations and the illuminating narrative without the detailed catalogue that appears in the original, this second edition offers an opportunity that is unmissable. About the Author Duncan Robinson is Director of the Yale Center for British Art and Professor of History of Art at Yale University.
