Product Description Incessantly teased by childhood peers over an uncharacteristic scar from a fiery car crash, spirited Terri Neal finds comfort in her father's explanation:"The flames licked your arm, but when it tasted you, it knew you were special, and the fire was afraid." Her father's shadowy death in a mysterious building fire prompts Terri to develop into a dedicated, top-notch firefighter. In a deadly house fire, she sees her father's image through the flickering inferno. He instructs the iron-willed young woman to seek out her biological parents. However, this task will be far from mundane as it propels Terri down a path of intrigue, romance, and peril. In the innocent shadows of daylight, a lethal stalker and kidnapper lurks.Death approaches ... and someone will soon succumb to the insatiable TASTE OF FIRE! From the Author In my opinion, 2011 could be labeled "The Year of Texas Blazes." Our drought-ridden territory suffered scorching temperatures of 100 plus degrees for months. The parched land only served as a catalyst to stoke the savage fury of wildfires. Texas spans more than 170,000,000 acres, and no section of my enormous home state was exempt from the treacherous wrath. Helpless, I watched the leaves of even young saplings turn an out-of-season brown from lack of rain. Huge Oaks, Elms, and even many of our vast varieties of evergreen Pines lost footing. Too often their struggling root systems surrendered, and statuesque timbers tumbled like the implosion of an outdated condemned building. I felt as if the uncontrollable devastation, not to mention fear, held my feet and heart in concrete. Folders with birth certificates, college transcripts, precious pictures, childhood memorabilia from our sons and grandkids, along with my Bible, filled the trunk of my car. I tried to stay calm, but prepared for a speedy retreat. Firefighters, either paid employees or volunteers, valiantly emerged with the courage of a dragon slayer to extinguish the enemy time and time again. Men and women, young and mature, launched into practiced action each time the call went out to save land, homes, and lives. Therefore, I want to personally praise all the brave 'catastrophe warriors' and recognize their gallant, dedicated, and selfless acts through my mystery novel, Taste of Fire. Thank you ...thank you..., and thank you! From the Inside Flap To my Lord and Savior who gave me insight, talent, creativity, resourcefulness, stubbornness, and an open door to follow the journey through this chapter of my life. Taste of Fire is dedicated to all firefighters, men or women, young or old, active or veteran, paid or volunteers, whose artful and noble heroism I applaud. May God always guide each step to keep you safe. From the Back Cover This mystery novel is dedicated to all firefighters, rescue workers, and police officers. Thank you for your brave, courageous nobility. May God always keep you safe. - Jeannie Faulkner Barber About the Author Jeannie Faulkner Barber was born and raised in Marshall, Texas.
