The Saluki, the greyhound of the desert, is one of the oldest breeds of domesticated dogs. The Arabs believed they were a sacred reward from Allah and called the Saluki El Hor, the noble one. Salukis were used for hunting and they were so highly prized that they were kept separate from the ordinary unclean dogs and were allowed to share their masters tents. The beautiful Gazelle Hound has remained remarkably true to its original type, and in this highly comprehensive book of the breed, Diana and Ken Allan trace its history from its desert origins to the show ring and the coursing field. They highlight all aspects of this versatile breed, and give invaluable information on breeding, choosing a puppy and general care. It is a must for the pet owner, the show goer, and the sportsman.
