About the Author When Larry Carter left his rural home to attend WMU, he knew one thing for sure: He wanted to write. There began his journey from a 17-year-old in a flop-hat to an MFA. Along the way, he earned a living as a counselor, teacher, photographer, and writer. In 1987, at age 35, he posed for a statue that now looks out over Kalamazoos Bronson Park.
