Dr. Dennis Gage, M.D. obesity expert and endocrinologist urges Americans to give up one day of unhealthy food and donate the value of the item to relief agencies to help Tsunami survivors. The disastrous Tsunami has given every American a unique chance to save a life, a human being, the most precious commodity in the world. Here is how you can help: Each American can for one day of the year give up one item of food, in particular an unhealthy item such as soda, a fast-food meal, one pack of cigarettes, a fattening dessert, or an unhealthy snack. Take the value of the item and send a donation to the relief agencies that help Tsunami survivors. Is there any better way of giving "TLC"? For you, there is not only the knowledge and satisfaction of helping others, but you have ironically helped yourself. The unfortunate events that occurred in the Indian Ocean may have been prevented by having had a "Red Alert Warning System in place to warn coastal residents of potential Tsunami events. Unfortunately this was not in place and so many lives were lost. Secretary of State Colin Powell visited Thailand and pledged U.S. support for a regional warning system in hopes of preventing such massive loss of life from future tsunamis.Dr. Dennis Gage, M.D., Obesity Expert and Endocrinologist states "It is such an unusual situation to talk about a "Red Alert" in the United States. We always think of defending our country, but so many patients in my practice who have suffered from obesity have failed to sound a "Red Alert" after losing weight and this is the major problem that faces many people in this country where thousands of lives are lost because a "Red Alert" again is not sounded". A "Red Alert Warning System" when used by people would save thousands of lives even in the United States by preventing the ravages and destruction that is caused by the epidemic of obesity. Three quarters of Americans are overweight and we are killing ourselves with the epidemic of obesity. So by giving up an indulgence, you are giving yourself a chance to practice what Dr. Gage has called "Thinderella Lifestyle Change (TLC)" as described in his book The Thinderella Syndrome: A Practical Guide to Individualized Permanent Weight Loss (Vantage press, 2004). This simple pattern change for one day can send 100 million dollars of aid to the Tsunami victims. Dr.
