Product Description Infatuated with the image of a Native American Indian man, a native German returns to the place where she first encountered her vision of living male perfection. Accompanied by an American friend, she travels through geographically and emotionally unfamiliar territory when she revisits Ventana, a place of Indian lore in the barrenness of rural southern New Mexico. The story takes us from childhood memories of Soviet occupied East Germany to her gripping escape to West Germany and a life-changing chance encounter at Ventana. On her way, she meets people from different cultures and first closes them out but then learns to accept the differences that separate them and to embrace the commonalities they share. Her humorous, heart-wrenching and spine-tingling adventures take us on a journey through time and countries as well as on a roller-coaster ride inside the broadening mind of a person who learns to overcome her challenges and, in the end, finds what she didnt know she had lost - herself. Ventana is a story of friendship and courage, emotional highs and lows, opportunities to effect change and choices to take advantage of these opportunities, or to let them pass by. It is the story of a woman who learns to overcome her greatest weakness despite her difficulties to express herself in a foreign language far away from home. About the Author J. F. Berg started to tell stories early in his life. On the way home from school, he used to entertain his classmates with funny products of his imagination. Some frequently walked passed their homes and out of their way just to hear the end of yet another one of his creative adventures. He used a Dictaphone (a dictation device used in the 1950's and 60's) to record detective stories with sound effects in an office down the hall from his father's office when he accompanied his dad to work on Saturday mornings while the offices were officially closed. The hard plastic covered floor lent itself to recordings of mysterious footsteps. Pencil sharpeners, staplers and squeaky drawers found new uses in his temporary recording studio that even their inventors had never dreamed of. Telephones rang and keys jingled. On Monday mornings, office personnel would gather around that same Dictaphone to listen to his creative concoctions. Later in life, he used his imagination to write short stories for an international chat group on America Online. His opinions and comments on current events were published in several newspapers. In the states, he actively participates in Native American powwows and ceremonies, joins his extended family at gatherings, and is familiar with customs of several American Indian tribes. He also lived and worked in western Europe where he traveled extensively. He and his wife live with the "fur kids" (several cats and dogs) they rescued and adopted in Pennsylvania, USA.
