This popular text discusses the major theories of international relations and provides students with the historical background to understand global politics. Juliet Kaarbo brings the text fully up-to-date with coverage of contemporary issues such as international conflict, economic alliances, and terrorism and global security. A five part organization-theory and history; states and foreign policy; security relations, economic relations; and global challenges-focuses on the most urgent topics in international relations and global politics. A theoretical chapter on global politics covers six major perspectives on international relations and clearly explains the premise and significance of each theory. Chapter 3, The Modern Era, includes coverage of the post-Cold War era, the Arab-Israeli conflict, super power involvement in the developing world, changes in the international economy, and north-south relations. Coverage of globalization focuses on the growing importance of the global economy, NGOs, and multinational corporations.
