"The latest picture book by Ledyard, author of the critically acclaimed Pie Is for Sharing, is beautifully illustrated by Pixar animator Sasaki. Ledyard's sweet text describing home pairs seamlessly with Sasaki's rich and detailed illustrations, which further show all that home can be." School Library Journal, April 2019, STARRED review? "Ledyard offers a meditation of sorts on the sense of comfort and belonging that home should evoke, whether it's a place we know well or a new home to which we've just moved. ... With a style that recalls the work of Jon Klassen and Christian Robinson (while still his own), Sasaki offers a rich interpretation of Ledyard's spare, poetic text." Horn Book Magazine, March/April 2019, STARRED review"Ledyard's extemporaneous text leaves wide berth for kids to amplify and personalize the story--as does Sasaki's whimsical, tranquil digital art, which features an amalgam of patterns and geometric shapes. Emphasizing the comfort of the familiar and the promise of new beginnings, this book provides a conversation prompt for families making a move." Publishers Weekly, Feb. 22, 2019"This sweet, emotionally perceptive book will help make any transition from old to new less scary." Kirkus, Jan. 15, 2019From the AuthorIn 2010, my family and I left a beloved, cozy home in on a quiet, tree-lined street in a neighborhood full of children and in a town with very little traffic, to move to a much larger city, into a home on a street with fewer trees, more traffic, and no children playing out front. For a while, I felt sad, and I really missed my old street -- even though I knew in my heart that our decision to move had been the right thing for our family. Then a good friend said to me, "Home is where your family is." I carried that with me over the following years as I adjusted to our different kind of home. And all the while, I kept thinking of the meaning of home. What makes a home? What are the most basic elements of home in different cultures? Is a home a place, or is a home the people within? Can home be a feeling? And what about food? How can I express all this in words? These are only some of the questions going through my mind as I wrote Home Is a Window. I hope that the words in this book, combined with Chris Sasaki's powerful illustrations, will find whoever needs them -- the same way that my friend's comforting words found me not so long ago. From the Inside FlapHome can be many things--a window, a doorway, a rug ... or a hug.
