Art Nouveau, new art in every sends of the word, reached its zenith in the early years of the 20th century. The movement began as a reaction against the horrors of mass production, reintroducing skills and craftsmanship which were fast dying out. In fine art, it was a rebellion against the striving for naturalism of the impressionists, creating, as it did, fantastical forms in mythical landscapes. This beautiful book gives an account of the artists, craftsmen, architects and designers whose skills represent the finest in Art Nouveau, works by Horta, Tiffany, Lalique, Daurne, Olbriche and Gaudi, and many other exponents of the Art Nouveau style are features in all their ingenuity and originality. For those who know and appreciate Art Nouveau here is a valuable sourcebook of the artists and their work. For everyone else, this book is an exceptionally well-documented introduction to the most distinctive style created this century.
