Analyzing Short Stories is designed to introduce students to the concept of literary analysis by focusing on short stories. This book promotes critical thinking, analytical skills, and organizational principles. After introducing the concept of a story's central idea, Analyzing Short Stories focuses on each element of a short story, (character, conflict, point-of-view, setting, language, and tone) and that element's relationship to the central idea. Joe Lostracco and George Wilkerson created a text that would explain the elements of short fiction so students could learn to analyze and write about the stories. The structure of a story is presented in easy-to-understand language and reveals the necessary connections between an effective story's central ideas and the elements of fiction. This book is recommended for students of literature and creative writing, or those interested in understanding fiction and the techniques of analysis.
