From Library Journal Schwartz is a rare and compelling art writer: he brings the often closed and academic art world back to earth for his readers, placing his subjects in a broad context. Readers with some familiarity, those just beginning to look at art, avid fans, and art professionals--all will enjoy equally this lively collection of essays. The author covers a range of topics, focusing often on contemporary painters, but including recent "master" exhibitions, well-known artists, and modern art theory. Also thrown in are a few essays not directly related to art. Overall, these astute and rhetorically delightful essays add much to the general understanding and dialog of art.
