From Star Trek to Dexter's Laboratory to Stretch Armstrong, Building a Better Bench takes the reader on an American subculture-infused quest in search of a better way of evangelizing to those outside of the Christian faith. The first phase of the journey is spent closely defining the church and its intended purposes, and the second phase is dedicated to applying that definition to our daily lives. Benkert's illustrative use of personal accounts, and innumerable film and television references bring a fresh, unique perspective to modern Christianity and encourage the reader to examine the way in which their faith is perceived by outsiders.
