In "Building the Octagon," Orlando Ridout recounts the design and construction history of Washington, D.C.'s historic Octagon House. One of the first architect-designed townhouses in the United States, the Octagon was at one time the residence of James and Dolly Madison and is now the home of the Octagon Museum. "Building the Octagon" places this significant building in the context of American architectural history and the founding and early growth of Washington.
