More than a fourth of all medications on the market originated from the study of organisms which breed in rainforests. Colossal fortunes stand to be made from the exploitation of these forests. Major pharmaceutical corporations are willing to do anything to get their hands on these enormous biological treasures. And it is just such a race for the possession of a mysterious organism with incredible powers that ignites an all-out war among a powerful multinational corporation, its competitors, and a frightening religious sect with a tentacular international presence. But everyone seems to have underestimated the protagonist of this story, a skilled manager of a pharmaceutical company who decides to participate in the competition on his own terms, a man who is unable to forget that, in the face of all possible temptations, saving innocent lives and preserving the forests depends solely on his decisions. From the shadowy meanderings of the hideouts of a mysterious Middle-Eastern sect to the foggy mountains of Panama and the insalubrious swamps of the Caribbean coast, this novel takes us on a tale of ambition, love and courage, where the myth of a miraculous drug may result in ferocious massacres and ecological catastrophes.
