Hartford is the capital of Connecticut, the state's largest city, and the core of a seven-town chartered metropolitan area. Situated on the west side of the Connecticut River, about 100 miles northeast of New York City and 100 miles southwest of Boston, the city currently depends on a balance of business and industry for its economic vitality.
