From the Author The Gingerly series of chapter books is near and dear to my heart. In the leading character, Gingerly, you will find bits and pieces of me as I grew up in a small town in Texas. Because of my ethnic background and size and weight, I encountered bullying, isolation, self-esteem issues, and other emotional issues. And, just like Gingerly, I found that with the help of my friends (of which there are many), I was able to deal with and overcome the negatives and turn them into positives. It is my hope that children everywhere will find a friend in Gingerly, Zoey, Eric, and the others in this book. I also hope that they learn how to be the heroes in their own lives, just as Gingerly does. Product Description Meet Gingerly Matson, an extremely tall, slightly overweight, shy 5th grader from West Intermediate School. Gingerly spends most of her time wishing that she was invisible. That is until she meets her new best friend, Zoey. Zoey has flaming orange hair that is as wild as her personality. Together, Gingerly and Zoey learn that everything is better when you share it with a friend. Review Reviewed by Anastacia Hawkins for Readers' Favorite Gingerly by Terri Kelley is the story of a fifth grade outcast, a tall, overweight girl who dreams of being a dancer, but only dances in the privacy of her own bedroom. Gingerly is a sweet story about the power of friendship. Zoey is the kind of friend we all wish we had when dealing with the troubles, hurdles, and heartaches of growing up. Gingerly is best suited for children ages 4-8. The story is simple and nonthreatening with happy endings for everyone, including the school bully. About the Author Terri Kelley, M.Ed, has written over two dozen children's books. She was born at a military hospital in Seoul, S. Korea and was raised in Copperas Cove, Texas. From there, she moved to Granbury and then to Tomball, Texas. This is where she raised her three children, Melynda, Jessica, and James. Terri now lives in Eugene, Oregon with her husband, Michael, and their dog, Oliver. Terri has always loved to read and to write. She wrote her first fiction story when she was about eight years old. It was about two horses (her favorite animal) and was 212 pages long! Quite a feat for such a young person. Terri's dream is to inspire young people to become avid readers and writers.
