The year is 1714, a time of turbulence among nations, when wars were constantly fought on land and sea. In this dangerous world, Kyla Murdock, a young and beautiful woman is determined to find her destiny. Forced from her home by vicious lies and bitter tongues, she sails away from her beloved Scotland to find a new life, free from misery and heartache. Kyla soon discovers that her beauty and allure can be both a curse and a charm, as the men who gather around her seek to tame her adventurous spirit. Reveling in her newfound freedom, Kyla is loath to settle down or conform to the wishes of Robert McPherson, a handsome colonial who wants to make her his bride, and mistress of his plantation in the Carolinas. An Indian raid, and a battle with Spanish warships changes everything, and Kyla finds herself a prisoner of war on the island of Hispaniola. Charged with piracy, and returned to the colonies to face the gallows, Kyla is given a second chance to reconsider Robert's offer of marriage. Even while she accepts his proposal, Kyla knows in her heart that the man she truly loves may now be lost to her, forever.
