Spanning more than fifteen years of St. Paul's career, these letters give us insight not only into the Apostle's vision of the gospel but also into the world of the early church. Philippians reveals believers striving to maintain and deepen their unity and love for one another. First and Second Thessalonians show us a people longing for the Second Coming of Christ. And Ephesians and Colossians portray churches learning how to live as citizens of heaven in a world filled with conflicting philosophies and attitudes. As ancient as these letters are, they still have the power to speak to us today as we strive to hold fast to Christ and to shine his light into the world. Letters to the Early Church features an introduction to each letter written by a trusted Catholic biblical scholar and meditations on each passage. Historical background, relevance to our lives today, and insight into church teaching are all combined with guidance in prayer in a way that makes Scripture come alive
