An "Author's Note" expands somewhat upon the data offered on major physical and behavioral characteristics in the main text and mentions some of the factors involved in the reptile's color-changing mechanisms. Rothman's brightly painted two-page spreads (blues, greens, and browns predominate) convey a real sense of the animal's natural habitat and perfectly match the mood of the text.
