Ray Ortlund was tired of being an ordinary pastor at an ordinary church. In a scene that seems right out of a Charles Sheldon book, Ortlund stood in front of his congregation and asked them to make a commitment-a commitment to God, to the church, and to the work. He called this little ragtag band of Christians the Company of the Committed, something happened-a spark set fire to an ember. A few years later there was no small group with a catchy name because the entire church had become a Company of the Committed. Like Ray, many Christians desire to be more than ordinary; they wish their lives to be a miracle. In their classic book, Ray and Anne tell how one band of Christians transformed their lives, their church, and their community.
