Examining the role of transnational radio broadcasting in the 20th century, this study compares and contrasts the goals and objectives of six broadcast networks: the BBC, Radio Free Europe, Voice of America, Radio Marti, Radio Free Asia, and Vatican Radio. The work traces the evolution-technical and programmatic-at each institution through world events such as World War II, the Cold War, the Solidarity Movement, the democratization of the Eastern bloc, and Tiananmen Square.
