From Booklist In his latest novel, the prolific Australian writer tells the story of Matt Durban, an up-and-coming politician who struggles to overcome personal turmoil to become leader of his party. Years ago, a young woman Matt dated was murdered, a man was sent to prison for the crime, and the incident was forgotten. Now, a quarter of a century later, the murder comes back out of the shadows and threatens both Matt's political career and his marriage. As always, Cleary focuses on his characters, exploring their emotions and motivations. More than a crime story, this one offers a revealing character study of a political leader and his fiercely independent wife.David PittCopyright American Library Association.
