This, I trust, is a book that you will return to repeatedly for the rest of your life.' -- Joel R. Beeke, from the foreword'Encyclopedic, doctrinal, spiritual, devotional, and readable-Ore from the Puritans' Mine has it all. Packed with insight, liberally sprinkled with turns of phrase and figures of speech that shed rays of light on a wide variety of subjects, here is a treasure trove of seasoned wisdom to reflect on, apply, and share. Truly a book for every Christian home.' -- Sinclair B. Ferguson, chancellor's professor of systematic theology, Reformed Theological Seminary'No group of people in church history had such a profound and comprehensive theology as the Puritans. Because their works can be dense in length and depth they can easily overwhelm the reader. I am thankful to Dale Smith for providing a map to navigate the mines of the Puritans' theological and practical wisdom in this new book of rich quotations.' --John MacArthur, senior pastor-teacher, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, California'Readers will be grateful for Dale Smith's careful gathering of this diverse and rich anthology of Puritan quotations. For those unfamiliar with the Puritans, this is an excellent introduction to the major themes of their theology and piety. For others who already know the treasures of Puritan writers, this can serve as a handy reference guide for preaching and teaching or a valuable resource for devotional reading. This volume deserves a broad reception, and I highly recommend it!' --Tom Schwanda, associate professor, emeritus, of Christian Formation and Ministry, Wheaton College'What a treasure this is! An invaluable aid to writers, preachers, and Sunday school teachers. Pure gold.' -- Derek W. H. Thomas, senior minister, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia South Carolina'As a preacher expounding books of Scripture week by week, I found a couple volumes of quotations invaluable. What was the theme of the text? Creation? Conscience? Trials? Mortification? Evangelistic concern? I found fertility, illumination, warmth, and sheer edification in those books. How I wish that this precious volume had been in my hands twenty years ago. Get it! And use it as its compiler recommends.' -- Geoffrey Thomas, emeritus pastor, Alfred Place Baptist Church, Aberystwyth, Wales
