S. Naipaul, Derek Walcott, Paule Marshall, Jamaica Kincaid, and Michelle Cliff have responded to the paradise-plantation dichotomy.The conspicuous disparity between the Caribbeans reputation as paradise and the stark social, economic, and political realities of the region is not news.
