He encounters a multitude of obscure animals with remarkable personalities who aid in guiding him along his way, and try to help him to reach his ultimate goal...his exit back into the place he started from. As with all harrowing situations, Pippin comes through his experience having lost a part of his essential self, but more importantly, has gained knowledge and insight and has learned the true meaning of "friendship", particularly with his best friend Peanut (a Yorkshire Terrier).
