Over the last few years PostgreSQL has emerged as a viable, even preferable, alternative to high-cost enterprise database systems such as Oracle. Large corporations or organizations using PostgreSQL include BASF (the world's leading chemical company), TiVo, USPS, and Verisign. PostgreSQL also won the 2004 Linux Journal Editors Choice Award for DMBS (database management systems). Like Paul DuBois' best-selling MySQL, Korry Douglas' PostgreSQL is the definitive, comprehensive reference on PostgreSQL for both programmers and database administrators. PostgreSQL, Second Edition leads the reader through the internals of the powerful PostgreSQL open source database chapter, offering an easy-to-read, code-based approach that makes it easy to understand how each feature is implemented, how to best use each feature, and how to get more performance from database applications. The book is completely updated to cover new features and capabilities of the 8.0 version of PostgreSQL.
