Product Description A brand-new historical novel from a well-loved storyteller - Henriette dEntragues isnt satisfied with simply being the mistress of Henry IV of France; she wants a crown too. Despite his promises to marry her, the King is obliged by political necessity to ally himself with a rich Italian princess. But Henriette isnt one for giving up easily. All she has to do to achieve her ambition is to give Henry a son, and then do whatever it takes to set him on the throne . . . From Booklist It is only a matter of time before Henriette dEntragues becomes the next queen of France. At least that is what Henriette initially believes. After all, Gabrielle dEstrees, Henriettas only real competition for King Henry IVs favor, has just died, and Margot, the current queen, is more than willing to grant Henry a divorce. Henriette even has a signed document from Henry promising that once she gives birth to his first son, she will become queen. Henriette quickly discovers that document isnt worth the paper on which it is written when Henry bows to political pressure and marries Italian princess Marie de Medici. Still, a promise is a promise, and Henriette will do whatever it takes to wrest the crown from that Italian upstart and assume the throne that is rightfully hers. Its the ultimate battle royal in the latest passion-rich installment of Lightfoots French historical series as two completely different and equally fascinating protagonists fight for feckless Henry IVs love. --John Charles About the Author Lightfoot has been a teacher, bookseller and smallholder.
