This is a report of the Leyte operation, World War II. Constituted on 22 January 1943, Headquarters Sixth Army was activated on 25 January 1943 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Leyte Operation was the initial phase of the Allied thrust into the Philippines, a thrust which was to culminate in the ultimate reoccupation of Luzon and the clearing of all enemy forces from the Philippine Archipelago.
