FromRiver of Reckoning is a huge, lush, magnificent, fast-paced epic novel centered around the Missouri River. Rich in historical detail, expertly plotted, moving at the pace of a thriller, full of vivid description and colorful characters-and based on accurate reconstructions of the times-it reflects Americas millennium-long love affair with this mighty stream in the countrys heartland. River of Reckoning takes place in three acts. The first takes place in Medieval times; the second during the American Civil War, and the third in the terrorism-obsessed America of the near future. The river itself is the unifying hero of the novel, which was written in celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition. In the tradition of the Patrick OBrian Aubrey-Maturin novels, of The Novel of Russia, by Edward Rutherford, and of James Micheners Centennial, Tom Sterns River of Reckoning brilliantly charts the course of an entire culture by focusing on the people and events of a single pivotal location.
