The intense teamwork, the glorious victories, the heartbreaking crashes-the whole exhilarating and unmatched experience of the Shelby American racing effort of the 1960s comes roaring to life in this book, in Dave Friedman's fabulous photographs and in the revealing first-person accounts of those who were there. In lively anecdotes and incomparable pictures, Shelby GT40 covers the Shelby team's GT racing program from 1964 to 1967-from Shelby's California shop and early test sessions to Ford's all-out assault on Le Mans and its all-American victory in 1967, featuring Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt. Foyt and Gurney are only two of the legends whose voices and stories animate this book, along with other giants of racing such as Carroll Shelby, Bruce McLaren, Bob Bondurant, Mario Andretti, Chris Amon, Carroll Smith, and more.
