Product Description Several important chapters in American history are viewed through the experiences of a Southern family. These exciting historical figures leave an indelible mark on Florida, their adopted home. They experience heights of achievement and depths of loss, and they rise to every challenge.Joseph White is Florida's second elected territorial delegate to Congress and an authority on dealing with old Spanish land grants. He and his wife, Ellen, move in the glittering world of celebrated literary and political figures of the 1830's and become one of Florida's most brilliant and admired couples.Ellen's nephew, Patton Anderson, is a hero in the most romantic tradition. When hostilities between the North and the South become imminent, he resigns his appointment as Governor of Washington Territory. He returns to Florida and sees distinguished service in some of the Civil War's fiercest battles. In a day when honor and loyalty are strong, none pursue these virtues more passionately than Patton Anderson. The Andersons, though financially ruined by the war, persevere and endure with grace and courage. About the Author When Margaret Anderson Uhler, a native Floridian, inherited personal letters and memoirs of her ancestors, she visualized heroic and romantic characters in a novel. Mrs. Uhler lives in Milledgeville, Georgia. Her articles have appeared in several historical publications.
