"This is the path of false prophets: those who proclaim in the name of some god what really comes from themselves. And this other is the path of failed prophets: those who receive a divine calling, but then find they are unable to fulfill their mission. Tell me, son of man, which of these is your path?" He remained silent. He felt the snakes gaze on his face like a cold itch... In this religious fantasy, a man alone in a barren wilderness undergoes a grueling personal trial and is beset by doubts and visions that challenge his faith and his sense of purpose. Then, he's confronted by a cunning adversary who strives to set his humanity and his spiritual nature against each other. An imaginative reinterpretation of a familiar, but profoundly enigmatic, Bible story that considers issues of faith and doubt, good and evil, and what it means to be human.
