From rear cover "The ability to sketch quickly and effectively has its own rewards, to say nothing of its value as a working tool in the graphic art and design fields. The Sketch shows the reader how to arrive at a simple and effective sketch through a simple step process of line, shape, detail, and tone plus black. This is done with a minimum of prose and with many demonstration sketches, examples, and critiques. The following topics are materials, perspective, shades and shadows, composition, thumbnail sketches, people, landscape forms, sketch critiques, sketch examples and reference books. The Sketch offers the beginner as well as the professional a new approach to sketching. It is illustrated with sketches done by the author as he traveled around the world with sketch pad in hand. The illustrations and examples were done with many different drawing pens and pencils...."
