Product DescriptionArkady Renko returns in a gripping mystery involving a kidnapped baby with a mysterious teenage mother, a murdered prostitute, police corruption, and as always, the complex, impenetrable landscape of modern-day Moscow.Investigator Arkady Renko is back on the scene, with a whole new set of problems: his prosecutor keeps him without work, hes struggling with the onset of middle age, and his friend Victor is arrested for public drunkenness. Zhenya, the fifteen-year-old chess prodigy whom Renko tries to parent, returns to the scene when he witnesses a shocking crime. As always, Smiths Three Stations is filled with intriguing, flawed characters and set in Moscow, a city so intricate and three-dimensional its practically a character itself.About the AuthorMartin Cruz Smiths novels include Gorky Park, Stallion Gate, Nightwing, Polar Star, Stalins Ghost, Rose, December 6, Tatiana, The Girl from Venice, and The Siberian Dilemma. He is a two-time winner of the Hammett Prize, a recipient of the Mystery Writers of Americas Grand Master Award and Britains Golden Dagger Award, and a winner of the Premio Piemonte Giallo Internazionale. He lives in California.Ron McLarty has appeared on Broadway in That Championship Season, Our Country's Good, and Moonchildren. His film credits include Two Bits, The Postman, and The Flamingo Kid. He has starred on television in Spenser for Hire and Cop Rock. Mr. McLarty is also a novelist and an award-winning playwright. From AudioFileNarrator Ron McLarty is an excellent match for this taut, suspenseful story, featuring Russian detective Arkady Renko, who first appeared in Smith's blockbuster debut, GORKY PARK. In Moscow's Three Stations district, a seedy area filled with violence and teenage gangs, a young runaway's baby is stolen on a train. The rough but steady tone of McLarty's delivery conveys both the thread of corruption that dominates the novel and the character of the novel's hamstrung detective, who has covered some distance and taken more than a few beatings yet remains determined, uncompromising, and incorruptible. McLarty is especially good at picking out the significant shadings of Smith's understated style, as well as the significant features of a scene. This fine production will please a broad audience as well as mystery fans. D.A.W. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine
