The thrilling story of a deranged loner's week-long captivity of a high-school girl in the wild Pennsylvania mountains. In "Trail of Terror," photojournalist Kenneth L. Peiffer presents a straightforward interpretation of the crime spree of Shade Gap's "Mountain Man" William D. Hollenbaugh. It contains more than 80 pages of photographs the author made during or immediately after the event. These illustrations not only depict the lonely places where the Mountain Man preyed upon his unsuspecting victims; they also provide the reader with a rare glimpse of 1960s culture in rural America. This reign of terror culminated in the abduction and captivity of Peggy Ann Bradnick, which kept the nation enthralled for eight days in May 1966. Here is the story told by one who watched it unfold at close range.
