He graduated from St. Michaels College, and then procceeded to join a Catholic Mission in Africa, which is where the White Mandingo saga takes place. The two-part novel is ninety-five percent true. Upon returning from Africa, he attended Princeton Theological Seminary. Maurice has also written several screenplays as well as the movie adaptation of the White Mandingo saga.
