But a 12-day love affair with an African American marine on leave from Vietnam changed all that. Now, her refusal to give up her baby and renounce her love leads her on a path of destruction that threatens her very survival. Following a disastrous and abusive marriage, Kristen must reckon with her former husband's hidden criminal background-and a shadowy world that won't leave her alone-all while battling extreme racism along the way. Despite a temporary respite in the Queensland outback, the fear of those after her is always there. Then, horror, devastation and guilt force her once again to flee in order to protect her daughter. This time, she might not be so lucky... A sprawling, intricately drawn novel, In Small Measures mixes romance, mystery, and revealing social history for an unforgettable read. This important novel is about honoring love and fighting for what's right, even when everyone says you're wrong. From the Author In Small Measures provides readers with a panoramic view of the wide expanse of geography and social values of mid-twentieth century Australia as novelist Burke takes her young heiress on a dramatic journey to honor a love that so few could understand About the Author Born and raised  on a farm in the Central West of New South Wales Australia, Lynne's love of book began early, encouraged by her mother. She learned to read well before starting school and had read most of the children's books of that time well before her 10th birthday.  She often managed to hide in the woolshed reading a book to avoid doing her general chores on the farm. At aged 11 she read "Knock on Any Door", by Willard Motley which affected her deeply, as it led her into a world she did not know existed. She wrote to the author and was delighted when he answered this child from across the globe, and they continued as pen friends until just prior to his death in 1965.  A copy of his last work "Let Noon Be Fair, was delivered to Lynne by his Publisher after his death.  Lynne credits him with giving her the love of words and a good story, and the tenacity to continue to follow a dream. Writing was put to one side as Lynne married, had two children and pursued a successful career as a senior fundraiser for several major charities.  Over the years, she has owned and run, a children's wear boutique, a coffee lounge and with her family been involved in owning and running several Pubs.( Taverns) in both Sydney and country New South Wales.  Recently she decided to take up writing again, and this is her first venture into the world of publication.  Her next Novel is well underway and she is completing a book on Fundraising.
